The Owego Hose Teams, Inc. is represented by a Congressional softball team in Washington, DC. The team has won the coveted U.S. House Softball League (USHSL) Championship three times in four years (2013-14, 2016) making it the league’s first ever three time champion. Ranked #15 out of the 83-team league this past year, Owego finished as the 2018 runner-up in the postseason tournament at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling against some of the toughest softball competition in Washington, DC. Owego has an overall post-season record of 35 wins and 11 losses over its 15-year history.
Formed in 2005, Owego started with staffers from several upstate New York Congressional offices and is named after the hometown firefighter racing team of its manager, former Rep. Jim Walsh (NY-25) staffer Patrick Gavin, a native Owegoian and volunteer firefighter. The team still has a core of New York expatriates but has expanded and now includes six current or former staffers from Rep. Sam Graves’s office.
The United States House Softball League is a not for profit league founded in 2006 by Capitol Hill staffers. The USHSL offers a fun and competitive softball league representing a wide spectrum of the DC landscape. The league is made up of 100 plus teams from Congressional offices, Executive Agencies, State Societies, non-profits, trade associations, think tanks and K Street.
